My Name Is Jinj
Eversince I can remember, I have always been called "Ginger". I would introduce myself as "Ginger". I am used to be called as "Ginger" and don't answer to any other name but "Ginger".
Then I came upon an article on the internet about baby names (Don't ask me how I happen to stumble through that search for that would be another blog entry in itself). I read something about names contributing to the character of the child. Although it seems far fetched to be true, I still found some logic in it.
Some parents painstakingly select a name that would prevent their child from being bullied because of names. Do you remember when Prokopyo was bullied because his names was such? Do you recall Zarlyn being teased for having a girl name when he was simply named after both his parents, Zarjento and Evelyn?
The logic is, the name you use contributes to how society treats, relates and eventually influences you.
So, I came to think about my name -- Ginger.
More than a couple of times in the last few years, I have been responded to by new acquaintances with "Ginger?, I know a star named Ginger" referring to a Porn star they have recently watched (damn!). Is this why I get some unusual and offending proposals from men too often than normal?
More than a couple of times in my life, I felt I had to work harder than others to prove my worth to be listened to. Ginger of Gilligans Island, was sexy and beautiful but not necessarily brainy. I hope they don't associate my beauty (yeah right!) to be without brains. hahahaha!
Those are just a couple of thoughts about my name and me, so far.
Let's try something different. From now on, I'll try to introduce myself to new acquaintances as 'JINJ'.
"Hi, I'm JINJ. Nice to meet you."
